The château was originally limited to a large square main building or keep, flanked by two round towers, one of which houses a remarkable wooden spiral staircase. It features fine mullioned and transomed windows and a few cannonier archways. Today, the building has three storeys, but it would appear that it originally had one more. Several outbuildings frame the inner courtyard.
Historically, it is known to have belonged in the 16th century to the House of Fougeard, who held the rank of squire, then in the 17th century to the de Noblet family (from Chénelette in the Beaujolais region), who later became the lords of the powerful Château de La Clayette.
Long relegated to the role of farm, the château was restored to its former glory by the former owners in the early 2000s.
The wing that now houses the guest rooms (the north wing) used to house the kitchen with a 2-inlet bread oven (still in use).
